I have both the 17 & 24 in bound from CPS, never had my hands on one, any insight on how I go about using it.

Much appreciated.

would you say that the 17TS is much more sharper than the 16-35?

Yes, definitely. It's really not even a fair fight, between the 16 and the 17TS-E. The 17 TS-E corners are still tack sharp, unlike the 16-35 which turns to mush the larger the aperture you go.

Don't get me wrong, I love my 16-35, but it's really not a fair fight between the two. Each have their own strengths. My main reasons for keeping the 16-35 is it's all-around usefulness (it's a swiss army knife type lens for me) and it handles flaring and bright light sources better than any other lens I've tried. Two things that the 17TS-E does not do well with AT ALL!

Look into the TS-E 24mm II as well, I totally replaced my 17-40 with it and a Sigma 35.

Last shot (for a while at least :p) with the 17mm. I decided to go with the 24mm ii. I love the 17mm as well... I love both, but I can use my filters on the 24mm and it definitely is less flare sensitive. I know I will end up owning both eventually :p
