Thanks. I was at F3.5 to F4 for most of the shots. Sometimes it depends on how they are aligned. if they are like letter C, i'll go down to F5.6

So I am looking at buying a new laptop here in a month or so, and have one in mind but am open to any suggestions. My budget is around 1200 bucks (stretching it as it is for the one I have been looking at), and I want a 15 inch laptop. As far as I know the most intensive thing I will be doing on it is photo editing (which I like to do with lots of other pages open as well as a few Photoshop ones open), which is where my current laptop laggs behind (dell xps l502x, 2.5-3.1 gig I5, with a nvidia 540m 2 gig GPU, 750 gig 7200 rpm hd, and a 1356? by 738? screen).

This is the one I was looking at. It has a slower hd than my current one but I found a replacement 7200rpm drive for it for around 120 bucks. Also one of the reviews I read on this machine says you can swap out the 24 gig solid state hd for a larger one and use that to run your OS and applications like photoshop, do any of you guys know if that is true?

This is just one of some incredible scenery I captured this year at Mt. Rainier. I have a batch from this last week that's not processed yet, but easily the best photos I have ever taken.

Many photos focus stacked, stitched, and exposure blended. I think it took around 17 hours to put together.

Actually, the specs on your Dell aren't too bad... how much RAM do you have in it? I went from 4GB to 8GB on my old Lenovo T510 and it helped out Lightroom 5 quite a bit. I also have a Sandisk 256GB SSD in mine, I think that will allow me to get another couple years out of this one...

Anyone with LR5 use smart previews? Planning on getting a new external drive and taking advantage of the smart previews.

Johan superb landscape as usual. how many images you stacked on that one?

I'm so tempted to buy the rokinon 14mm. We're going cruise next year, hope i can get one before we go.

I have 6 gigs in mine. and I am really hoping to get faster use out of lightroom and PS

I will likely reluctantly get up to my max 8gb ram in the future (6gb now) since I keep reading that more ram is better with Lr...

of course, I don't understand it all - since my system only uses 40% of my ram with Lr 5 running, plus one or 2 web-browsers with several tabs open, and my email program... so I don't understand the 'more ram' thing...

I could upgrade my processor to quad-core... that could help...

thing seem's to be even though we only use max 50% of our ram (6 gig) that useing 25% of 16 gig of ram is faster, not sure why).

Whatever happened to the toys theme?
