Here's my entry.

I know it's not taken with a Canon camera, nor of a car, nor using off-camera flash (in fact no flash at all) and that there's no set-up picture, but I like it and it's as relevant as 99.9% of the other posts in this thread.

Seriously though, why are people having so much difficulty in understanding what the thread is about? I mean, BoV's post for instance, did he just get overexcited, not bother reading the posts immediately above his and just couldn't help himself posting his (off-topic) picture?

This could have been a really good thread but its turned into people just wanting to show off their pictures.

I think the boot is a symbol of the oppressive rules of this thread. As these "titles" of threads are nothing more than boots on throat of freedom, choking out the precious freedom we seek to inhale into our internet lungs.

Never again will we bow to the title of a thread in order to showoff a image we took with our iphones and other tools of the freedom corporations have given us.

Viva la....ummm freedom to post whatever... wherever.

As for the boot shot...

1. the boots composition needs work
2. colors are unsaturated
3. try a shallower depth of field
4. could use some OCF
5. did you try it in black and white?
6. where is the other boot? (did it seek freedom or just a bad crop?)
7. where is the foot? (amputee?)
8. the white wall is distracting.. try some vignetting
9. dirt on the bottom of the boot
10. You should buy an L lens. (L stands for freedom)

Not bad for practicing.

Since your using a longer focal length with a tight crop, you can bring those lights much closer.

that in turn will let you power down your lights a lot and you wouldnt end up with hotspots like that on the bumper.

Also, after you take your shot.. you can look on your LCD and see what wasn't covered... so you can say "ok, i have the bumper.. need the hood"... then move on to the roof, ect... kind of like a little checklist.

Also, get yourself a base shot with no flash... so you can edit out the double shadows that you sometimes get. like on this shot you have a shadow coming towards the camera and to the side... if you had a nice base shot with no flash, you could swap in the ground for a more realistic look.

That should get a good starting point.

I think the shadow under the front of the car is from the sun and not the lights, getting a base shot is still a good idea but it can sometimes end up with more shadow than the shot with flash.

Didn't quite get the strobe in every shot but you get the idea.

a+ on the gif as well.

You find it better shooting through a diffuser rather than a softbox?

It was just something I wanted to try for these wheels since they are super reflective and I was hoping to knock down some of the hot spots. Give it a larger light source to reflect. Was short on time so not sure it really worked.

I dont have a picture of the set up, as a matter of fact i dont even have a picture. But i did want to get some input n whether or not the 27-70 ii was worth the upgrade from the first iteration of the lens. Looking for some knowledgeable input, thanks in advance!

Makes sense... thanks!
