Girlfriend freaked out when I told her how much .....

a cheap lens was, lol. The other day I was telling her I was wanting to get a cheap lens that was better than the kit lens to get me by til I can afford the 70-200 2.8 and the 400 5.6. She asked how much was a cheap lens and I told her about $150-$200 and she about had a heart attack, lol. She said "Thats cheap"!!! I said "yep, you just wait til I need the money to buy the big boys cause I will need close to $3100 if I buy them used", lol. I said "if it makes you feel any better there are lenses that are close to $18,000 which then make the ones I want cheap.
Anyways just thought it was funny and thought I'd share

Make detailed note of this fact and her reaction.

Then, in ten years when she's your wife and she complains about the cost of a new lens, you can point out that she was warned!

Of course, doing so may lead to divorce, but that's a whole 'nuther subject, and, according to some, may have its own benefits.

How much did she spend on her last pair of shoes? (jewelry, make-up, dress, etc.)

Though, as Roger pointed out, just asking the question could be a relationship killer.

I'm in a similar situation. Slowly getting my wife ready for me to spend $300 - 500 on my next lens.

My previous experiences have been
nifty fifty - $100
shorty forty - $100
nifty two fifty - $65
But then again, there was the 8mm fisheye that was $290.

Yes a there is a really nice selection of matching off-white lens out there I think.

The good news is that once she gets accustomed to a new lens costing $1,500 to $3,000, anything under a $1,000 will seem cheap to her and will instantly be approved.

My first camera/lens combo was over $3,000. Just started in the right area that everything else seems normal. More cameras, L lens, SW, etc.

Looks like it's time for a new girlfriend. Yeah I'm single, but I shoot whenever I want, buy whatever I want, sleep in when I want ect., you get the point. Being single with no kids isn't as bad as some might make it sound.

When I was in the process of buying my first DSLR and discussing the budget with my wife, our expectations were quite different...

Lol she is pretty easy to deal with! I spent over $9000 on my mustang in the last year and she had no issue. I think she thinks it as just a lens and that they are all the same. Might have to sell mustang to justify those lenses but you got to do what you got to do. Btw she can buy whatever she wants and I never say a thing so I have an edge already lol.

Lol, I don't have a g/f now, but I did get the "omg, how much?" when I bought my 70-200 2.8 IS ... But understood more when I sold it for 100$ less than what I paid. But my new combo was a pretty penny!
