Anyone care to join me for a combined Air Show/Buzzard shoot on Saturday?

I'll be spending the day on Knowl Hill on the outskirts of Cranleigh, Surrey watching the days flying displays from high up. The hill (and the Knowl House itself) is used as a waypoint for the aircraft at the Wings and Wheels Show this weekend.
It's also where I used to walk my dogs and photograph the Buzzards up until my split from my wife.

Free public access and the show starts at about 11:30 so if anyone fancies joining me, please feel free.

To find the hill itself, Take the Alfold road away from Cranleigh, pass over the little bridge and drive to the end of the Greenhouses. Just past this point (10-15 metres) is a small lay-by with a metal gate leading to a public footpath. follow this to the end of the first field and look 45 degrees right and you'll see a large Oak tree on the edge of a copse at the top of the hill. I'll be there from about 10:45.

Anyone interested in my 7D body or any of the Sigma lenses/TC's in my sig before I put them to general sale? (ebay/here/etc.)

All are perfect condition and boxed etc. Looking to move to "L" glass now I have the 5D.

Morning all... Lots of great pics as always but this one especially jumped out at me ^^

Looking for some insurance company recommendations if you guys wouldn't mind. To cover both gear and public liability/professional indemnity. Thanks!

P.S. Must be time for a meet soon?!?

Hi mate,
I can definitely recommend Aaduki as I've just had a claim.
http://www.aaduki.com/ (external link)

I have a lot of high end gear, albeit pretty old stuff (MY 400 2.8 was about 30 years old), and there new for old policy has just proven itself an excellent choice.

My policy is around 450 per year based on £47K worth of gear (equivalent new model prices) (and they reduce your quote by £100 if you are a SWPP member, which happens to cost £99)

I recently dropped my 1D mk3 and the 400 2.8 ripping both apart at the bayonet :(.
The 400 was unrepairable due to the age, and the 1D MK3 was quoted at £2K for repair (it's an £800 camera!)
After a little negotiation, and no resistance from the insurance company, I agreed for a cash settlement instead, based on the new price of a 400 2.8 (=£8.4k) and the 2K which it would have cost to repair the 1D3.

The money is on it's way right now :)

Hence I am picking up a new 1DX on Friday, and shopping around for a 300 2.8 MKII as I'm downsizing a little, the rest is gong on some 600EX flashes, and the sale of my other MK3 and 5DII will fund a 5D3.

From quote to payout was about 10 days, can't big them up enough right now!

Now thats what i call good service.

NEW KIT ALERT!!!

My Lowepro Flipside Sport 15L turned up today. Absolutely made up with it. Just need to test it out next week now. :)

Im in two minds about getting a small Manfrotto Tripod for the nightime work. Can anyone recommend a small one? It needs to hold the 40D with grip and 24-105, so its not light. I have a ball head i can put on it.

Hi Rich,

Wow, that really is a glowing review, and with good reason by the sound of things. Thanks for taking the time to detail it all here and glad to hear that you're getting it all sorted out so swiftly.

OK question for you guys. I want to go out for the day with a friend this weekend and im going to take her to one of our castles. Its not going to be a photographic trip, just a sightseeing enjoying the walk trip.

Would you say Hever Castle Or Bodium Castle would be a better destination. Both are beautiful and both are packed with history, although very different.

You opinions are gratefully recieved!

@ Rob there is more to see and do at Hever Castle and more to the gardens, also more cover if the weather is bad, so I would go on how long a trip you want to make it........is it a date?

@Paul if you do get a quote from photoguard make sure you read the smallprint, I can't remember if it was them or someone else but they were cheap and in the smallprint it said the policy did not cover broken glass!! I queried this with them and they told me it did not refer to lenses but would not change the small print = me avoiding them completely
