I joined Canon's CPS program after reading this review and didn't have a positive experience with the loan program as you guys. I sent them an e-mail requesting to evaluate the 5DMKIII. I got an e-mail that said, "It's not available." So I responded with, "Is there a waiting list? If so, can you put my name on it?" He then replied with, "We don't keep a list."

So I was quite annoyed with his short responses at this point because I thought he was rude. So I basically questioned how the heck the CPS program is supposed to work and how was I ever supposed to get my hand on something if there's no waiting list. I sarcastically asked if I was supposed to e-mail him every day to ask if something is available. I got a response of, "You don't have to e-mail every day. Once a week is good enough."

Seriously?! SO I can wait for 5 months and if someone just happens to come around and happens to send an e-mail at the right time, he'll get it before me? Like I have nothing better to do than constantly ask if something is available. I was totally not expecting this. I have always been impressed with Canon's other services.

I think you're being a bit harsh, the 5DIII is a brand new camera, stores can't even keep them in stock so the position of CPS is quite understandable. I had a great experience borrowing a 1DIV & 35L from them and I'll definitely be using them again.

Edit: to the other poster, as far as insurance goes, try insured registered mail next time. I insured ~$7k for about $60 bucks I think and CPS received the gear in about 3 days when the post office estimated 1 week for delivery. If people don't start using our USPS, it will be gone. Sure there have been some horror stories but insurance is insurance....

I bet that's only with very new equipment. You probably weren't the only person requesting the 5dmk3 for evaluation. When I tried the 5dmk2 a few months ago, I gave them a date that's like 6-8 weeks out and they did what they could to get it to me by then.

This doesn't excuse the rude behavior though. There is always a bad apple that ruins it for everyone.

Hi. I've recently joined CPS and not fully understanding the equipment loan program, I emailed them a request for the 85 f/1.2L II and asked when it would be available and if I could request a particular arrival date. To their credit, I received a response email just 2 minutes later. Although it simply stated that my lens would arrive on July 2nd.

For those of you that have requested loans before, do you specify a particular date when you want the equipment to arrive or do you just get it when it's available?

Has anyone used Fedex Express? I just got off the phone with them and they told me that the declared value would be the insured value as long as it in non-Fedex packaging. With USPS I can do Priority 2-day mail and add Registered for 10,000$ USD insurance but there is no guarantee of delivery withing 2-days. That is a risk :(

Currently i am evaluating 1DX Body, TS-E 24mm f/3.5 II, 1.4x III extender.

btw - you can evaluate more than 2 items if they have in stock and if there is no high demand. i am also curious to know if i can return the equipment by hand to any CPS event.

This is the first I have heard about this program, so can anyone register and pay the fee for gold or platinum? Or do you have to prove you are a professional of some kind?

It's a point system,
You have to sign up for a CPS login and then enter your gear info in, if you have enough points (Or enough money/gear) invested in Canon then they will allow you to pay for gold membership or above.

It's $100 a year for gold and $500 a year for Plat., I just signed up for gold after sending in my 7D to get cleaned and my 16-35 v II to get repaired.... doing so actually saved me some money too.
