Does anyone know the best flash to get with this camera? I don't like the one that comes with it.

Thanks!

Trade you. My 55-250 is much lighter, easier to carry. :)

She's fine. She is scheduled for a minor plumbing fix the middle of August and a hernia that's not bothering her will be tended to also at that time. She spent a week with us over the 4th and prior a week in KY with the other G&G. Always on the move. :)

Wishing you the best with your problem.

But if you have a choice and the money, go for the 430EX II. It can do much of what the discontinued 580EX II could do, and the price on it is reasonable. Plus, if you think you'd eventually upgrade the XSi, the 430EX II would still be usable.

Is it just me or does the bird in the image have a red cast to it?

That's funny, I've had my brother's 50 1.4 on long-term loan (because I can't afford to buy it) and I LOVE it. It's my default lens. I assume it would be a bit better on FF because on the 450D I always seem to be stepping back a couple feet to get my framing. But I know you are partial to the 60mm so I can see how you want to love the 50 but don't. I love better understanding of other photographer's eye, it's what all makes us a bit unique.

I did like the Sigma 30mm on crop, so I should have liked the 50mm on ff! But I think it's the build quality, and the fact that I had to stop it down to get sharp pictures that is the problem. I think I would like the Sigma 50mm better than the Canon version.

I've been busy with work lately (I have two weeks off now before school starts again, yay!), but yesterday I took my old 450D for a walk:

Great pics! The black&white gives them an almost "40's" feel. you could dress the people differently, and you're looking at a European street in the late 30's/early 40's!

Well, I've been trying to renew an interest in a hobby, (too much downtime lately) and my 14 year old has expressed an interest in taking pictures (what teenage girl doesn't). Guess I'll have to dust off the old XSi and see if the batterys still hold a charge. I think the last time it saw the light of day was a bout 2 years ago.

In the meantime, I have a 60D and a new lens on the way so we can shoot side by side.

Mine's from the middle of '08 and still on the original battery. Hopefully, you abandoned yours with some charge left in the 'pile' and it will snap back after a couple of cycles.
