^^Great detail.

Sometimes you don't have time to find that perfect background when the sky begins to shoot rays all over. I was intrigued not only by the light rays caused by the shadows of the clouds but also the rays from the sun. I especially liked how one ray has struck the patio cover and is reflected off of it too.

I decided not to crop this image at all to show as much of the light rays as possible.

I got a call earlier this evening from a fellow POTN member telling me about some terrific lightning bolts seen to the east (towards Palm Springs). I have pretty limited visibility around my house but when I went outside to take a look, sure enough, through the trees the sky was being lit up by one lightning strike after another. So, I grabbed my camera, replaced the 300mm lens with a wide angle, snatched up my tripod and headed out the door to drive anywhere close by that might give me a decent view of the light show.

Needless to say that by the time I found a place and got set up, the show was all but over. The only good news is that this was the first time I've tried shooting lightning and I actually succeeded. I think I still have a way to go before I'm at Daniels level though. ;)

QUOTED IMAGE

That cloud head on the left really looks like a face being lit up. Pretty cool.

This photo was very under exposed due to lighting and nearly ended up in the trash can, until I decided to muck around with it in post processing. Here is the end result. Just to show how good the 5D3 is with its dynamic range, especially in the shadows.

That is spectacular! (Pity about the roofs in the fore ground - not always in ones control though.)
Nice crop! Something I've had to learn to do recently. Made possible with the 5DIIIs full size sensor.

Mine, below, taken from my garden - surrounded by tall trees. Takes away so much of the event... what can you do!

Thanks, I like the golden colors of the clouds in your shot.

For my image, I was especially intrigued by the way only one of the light beams passing through the trees struck the patio cover and is reflected off of it while the rest don't strike anything.

Btw, mine is a 7 exposure hdr if anyone is interested.
