hmmm for something that long you may to look at some of the old 4/3 offerings. I am not sure if there's any there but those are big lenses as well. May as well just keep using your 1DIV:lol:

There is a 300 2.8 that is the same size and price as a Canon 300 2.8 L, which would be 600mm with the crop factor. Don't need anything that elaborate. Even just a 300mm 5.6 prime with excellent autofocus, sharpness, and compact size would be a perfect travel birding setup.

I would love to get one of theses:

180-500mm equivalent, and it looks like a bargain compared to the 200-400 F4 L IS!

*edit* They did make a 50-200mm 2.8-3.5 zoom, that is about a pound lighter than Canon's 100-400 and a bit shorter, seems to be common used on Ebay for $500-600. Have to read how it performed.

I think it needs more buttons per square millimeter.

In all seriousness though, give me some official specs!

That lens looks like a winner. If they can fix the tracking issues with AF and put out a decent true super tele option (shouldn't be hard with a 2x crop factor!!!) the E-M1 might earn a full time place in my bag.

If it really will be fully compatible with the regular 4/3rds pro lenses existing out there, that might be pretty exciting, as there are some great options out there that go for decent money on the used market, albeit rarely, since no one shoots the original 4/3rds bodies any more.

Jury is still out on the proportions of the grip, but it doesn't look as ugly in those photos, maybe because of the larger lens.

I think the most recent specs I read said that the EM-1 does NOT have the hybrid mount, as speculated earlier, and that it's strictly M4/3.

Ohhh I was wondering about the hybrid mount when I saw the latest photos but I thought it was already a done deal. Hmmm...

Like I was saying, I had my doubts that the lens price would be as high as some thought it might be. Guess we will have to wait and see if this pricing is correct.

I guess $2,200 is more reasonable than $2,500

With the way prices are dropping after a few months, I still think it's a bit high... and I just don't want to invest in it right away.

I also read that the Panny 150 2.8 is supposed to retail upwards of $3000 ! That is just silly.

Ahhh....this lens extends during zoom?? Booo!

However, $900 is not a bad price at all for it, makes sense, if it wants to compete with the Pan 12-35 f2.8. I just wish they were a bit wider...I mean...now we have choices...but at the same time, we have TWO lenses that do the same thing, and yet no 2.8 UWA zoom, for example! (I'd like to have a 16-35L equivalent).

A patent for a 8-17mm f2.8 lens popped up which would be pretty neat. But who knows if it will ever see the light of day. But with the new 12-40mm lens coming out, I'm going to stay hopeful that there will be more "Pro" oriented zooms coming out in the future.

I made a similar comment but realized that all lenses of that FL from Nikon, Canon, Panny and maybe others do zoom out too
