this one leaves the hummer a little OOF, but I loved getting both in one shot. I was set up in a ground blind waiting on the finches and the hummingbird surprised me.

Hi all. Just thought I'd share a quick thought. I had a wedding at the weekend, where a good friend of mine finally tied the not. I thought I was quite brave choosing the 30mm prime and the 70-300, leaving the 15-85 at home. Well chuffed with the results. Used this lens outside and the prime in. This lens is amazing for this kind of event, picking out natural expressions from a good distance away. Admitedly the weather was very kind. For anyone considering this lens, it's worth every penny, and can do birding to weddings. Very happy. Will share some results soon assuming I get the nod from the happy couple.

I typically shoot wide open - unless I need wider DOF - which I often do shooting birds in flight where I want wing tips in focus.

But as with every lens I shoot with, I most often add sharpening in my editing (lightroom 5), unless artistically I wish to unsharpen and reduce clarity for an effect such as the below

for what its worth - here is a before and after of a moon shot from this morning

first one I only cropped and applied lens corrections in Lightroom 5
second - as above and applied my typical moon workflow (including sharpening and clarity), which varies every time but will have common attributes
