How do you all manage to keep your images clean when shooting through glass? I notice on some of mine it gets a little bit hazy even after adding contrast in PP. Don't know if it's the time of day, or maybe just my lens since I use it at full zoom?

Cheers,
Nora

It's best to keep the lens close to glass as you can to reduce glare and with a hood, place the hood on the glass.

Also the last pic I posted there was no glass.

Here's one through glass.

Lindy, the Ocelot born at the Dallas Zoo in late June. Really fun to watch this morning!

Some light tight boxes, somes lenses, some stuff that it rests on and a camera strap. Oh, and a flash. Almost forgot the flash. And my thermos. And that's all I need.

Thank you Litespeed. The shot was handheld at 1/80sec. I don't have any secrets that I'm aware of. It helps to have an incredible lens though and the 70-200 I'm using now is just that. The constant f/2.8 has done wonders to the quality of shots overall. It also helps to have a subject that is not moving. Believe me, not all my shots are crystal clear. Many times I'll come home with 300 shots and only use ten. Technique is huge too. Practice good techniques and your shots should improve.

Honestly, the settings I use change every time I go because the light conditions change with the time of day. Plunk yourself down at an exhibit with active animals and just shoot trying different things. If the animal is moving fast...increase your shutter. If slow moving slow down your shutter and lower the ISO. Keep the aperture as wide as possible depending on light conditions. But you probably already knew all this stuff. If you have any specific questions feel free to send me a message.

Thanks for all the info--truly love your shots. Do you shoot in AV or manual mode? I'll keep working on my photo's. I usually shoot with a 55-250, or should I be trying my 100-400mm? Next Thursday I'm going back, I'm determined to get some nice shots if it takes me all day -- hope the heat breaks soon.

I usually shoot manual. I'd stick with the 100-400 as that's the L lens, yes? Better quality. Always focus on the eyes. Good luck.

Yes that is an L lens. I will definitely take the 100-400 next week and try shooting on manual.
