After trying to shoot in starlight only with no light pollution for the first time this past weekend, I am wondering the best way to get foreground exposed for a Milky Way Photo. I tried doing a 10min exposure for the foreground but there was a ton of random noise. Is it really necessary to use the Long exposure noise reduction or is there another way?

If it's the likes of your earlier shots, I'm wondering if some light painting is an option. Is the shoreline as close as it appears, or are these somewhat cropped/zoomed? Not a great example, but I tried this awhile ago - not a great composition, more for experimenting with the intesnity of the light I had:

Thanks for the reply, actually the mountains were over 100 yards away and really really big so light painting wasn't an option. Maybe the only way is to wait after sunset but when there is still some light in the sky and get a good 30 second or so exposure then and later in the night get the Milky Way but it would be nice if there was an easier way...

Inspired by seeing the movie Now You See Me, I decided to go down to 5 Pointz and take pics and decided to make a panorama before they demolish the site. It is 16 pics stitched together in CS6 all 10 sec exposures, ISO 100, f/7.1, all edited in Lightroom 5.
