Hi all,

Some friends of ours asked me to do senior photos for their son. It was fun. Dad acted as voice activated light/reflector stand while I shot. I was pretty happy with how these turned out.

As always, I appreciate any C&C.

Matt

Natural light, but with a white reflector camera left:

Natural light, but dad is camera right blocking the direct light on him and holding a diffuser keep the direct sun off his face, but let some softer light through.

Great shots. Can you take out the trash can in the 2nd pic?

I was thinking the same thing. I'll give it a try.

First shot...watch your DoF, the right side of the face is out of focus. Did you focus and recompose to get him off center, focus on the left eye, or crop it?

I focussed and recomposed for that composition. It's oof because I was shooting pretty open to blur the rocks behind him. I think it was F2.8 with the 85/f1.8 lens. I was pretty close to him so DOF plays a big role. I focused on the eye nearest me (his left).

I think it is bothering people more than it normally would because his left eye is in shadow and the rim of light draws your eye to the right side of his face...

Yeah focus and recompose will shift your focal plane - it was likely in focus when you focused initially.

It's still not a bad shot, the others are good stuff too.
