Charlie, what is up with the pink ruler?

Ummm.......

Err.... Would you believe it's a blue ruler and the colour-balance is off :) ??

It's pretty obvious from the picture that your pin will NOT fit the E700 (one the left) although it will fit the F830 Baby to Junior Swivel Pin (on the right).

Darn...Thanks Leo, I was afraid that was going to be the case....Back to the F830 :o !!

Cheers,

Austen.

I just want to take nice photographs of people.

Just about to bite the bullet and get the E700, when a last minute glance at asamimasa's review ........

"One thing I noticed was that the E700 locks down really deep. Possibly designed under the assumption that it's going to be used on a boom arm of significant length, it's too deep to be used on a standard brass stud. "

But the "Pin" on the end of my B&H Boom is exactly 38mm (1.5 inches) long .....

:
:
With the E700 fit on my Boom-Pin ??

Thanks,

Austen.

Austen-Powers - just measured an E700... its 45mm from the tube opening to centre of the screw-down bolt. I typically use one on an Avenger D600 boom.

...if your boom will allow you to swap out the spigot you could swap it for an E250 pin per my snapshots. Note you will have around 25mm gap if you use the E250's safety indents to tighten the E700 down, no real issue other than a small inconvenience to line it up.

Testing the strobes outdoors. These shots were taking around 5:30-6pm, the sun was already setting by then. I havent used them much outdoors really. Can the RX600 over power the sun when its high noon?

Yes, and so can a speed light, it all depends on what modifier, if any, you wanna use.

Unless you have your speedlights set up to optically trigger (we're not talking about the Canon wireless here), then no. You're better off setting your Eli gear to optically trigger and use the non ETTL flash from your speedlights to trigger the Eli's.

PacAce wrote in post #16276716 (external link)
In order to set off the slave 580EX II, you need to set the triggering 580EX II to master mode. And both 580EX II flashes need to be set to manual mode which I'm assuming you have already done. I have to double check but I think the Skyport receiver needs to be connected to the master 580EX II via a hotshot adapter in order to trigger the master 580EX II because the PC port is disabled when the flash is in master mode, if I recall correctly.

And one more thing, the max sync speed in this setup will need to be one stop lower than the actual max sync speed of the camera. This setup isn't really recommended because of that plus the limited range of triggering optically but it is doable if there are no other options available.

oldvultureface wrote in post #16276742 (external link)
There is a kludge to use a 580EX II attached to a single pin (non-E-TTL) receiver to fire other Canon flashes in slave mode. Set the 580 to master in manual mode. Set the other Canon flashes to slave mode. Differing power settings can be made by using A:B or A:B:C. Triggering the 580 will in turn fire the slaves. There is a latency problem though. The best I can do is 1/125 and nominally 1/100 with this setup without the black bar. I have one non-Canon flash with a simple optical trigger built in and it will sync with the Canons.

windpig's idea is better. ;)

PacAce types faster than I.

Thanks guys for the input! I'm going try windpig idea! seems like the easiest solutions.

Headshots are fun they said.... This edit took over 40 mins. :P

This was an impromptu headshot. Family friend came over for dinner, and asked what was all this gear. Took a few head shots, this was the best out of them.

Not trying to knock your photograph, as it's technically sound. But what took 40 minutes? Crop/straighten/ run a plugin is what i see.

I did most of the color corrections in lr4, and did a lot of retouching in cs6, with minor adjustment to get colors I wanted. Everything was manually done. I don't have any plugins for cs6. Are "plugins" equivalent to presets? I have only really been using cs6 for past couple weeks, so I'm still very new to it. Sounds like there a much easier way to edit these.
