I just bought a Voigtlander Color Skopar 20/3.5 this past week. I have only used it once, but I bought it to shoot urban environments and close ups like this:

Kid stuff.....sledding, parade. All kinds of stuff. Generally not landscapes for me because I'm never free around the times of day that I'd want to be shooting landscapes anyway.

I just use mine for landscapes and building interiors.
I don't use the full "width" of the lens as distortion can be very annoying.

To each his own. I think the perspective distortion is what makes the snowboard shot above fantastic.

The 10-22 is my most versatile lens. It is useful everywhere.

Dedicated APS-c shooter. Gripped 60D, 60 2.8, 10-22, 15-85, Σ70-200 OS and a big white something or other! Plus a 5D w/28-75.

Like any lens, you pick the focal length to gain particular aspects you need for a shot. For that snowboard shot above, it was the perspective distortion that makes it great. You could get that same shot with a 500mm (if you backed up quite a bit), but it would look flat and sterile and boring. You would also lose the nice backdrop of the background and several trees in the scene.

Additionally, there are times when you can't back up anymore say interior shots of homes or landscapes where you are already at practically infinite.

If you wanted to take a picture of the inside of a doll house, with a 8 or 10mm, you are going to be able to see what's on the walls of the doll house, while with something like a 100mm you won't be able to see anything on the walls.

No landscapes for me... ;)

Sometimes simply when I need a wide angle of view, but mostly for the perspective:

Landscape shots, including panos that are too wide to capture in one from; night sky/Milky Way shots; automotive for an interesting perspective on focused details of the rigs; airshows for static displays of large craft; etc.

It is true you have to be careful when shooting with a UWA lens to avoid distortion. But overall it is a fun lens to shoot more than just landscape. Here are some examples I have enjoyed with the Canon 10-22mm w/7D.
