...Looking back on the early threads about it when it was first announced, a lot of people were confused and skeptical about the need for the lens to exist at all, thought it looked odd, variable aperture, etc. But I couldn't be happier...

I got the highly controversial 60D early on and highly controversial 70-300L early on... its a great dynamic duo ~ heading out with it right now before work and a coffee.... its only 10 Celsius today

curious Vinz - if you got the 40 hotcake (again ) for video - I know its not silent but the AF is smoother due to the STM versus the 35 you are contemplating

On that one, I can't tell that the video taken with my 17-55 has any focus "jerk" in it, to the eye it seems to be fine...it's mostly the AF noise that I find a somewhat annoying.

I'm doing some video tomorrow and deciding if I should do manual settings, like manual focus at f/8 and auto ISO, 1/60 shutter using the 40 2.8....

such a video noob...

the 35 will be for....

- environmental portrait
- low light video and still
- general walk around for my 70D

and can be used in FF too.

ring type USM is said to be faster to focus but noisy than the STM according to keyan. also not as smooth as the STM. I will see that.

if the sigma 35 has IS(OS) which is essential to videos, i would have choosen it instead. it's sharp wide open. specially now that the 70D has MFA.

i was blown away by the shots here.

eventually when the price of 18-55 STM goes down, i might pick up one. many people sell kit lens.

First shot is HDR second is filter only. Nothing on the rainbow shot.

I don't know exactly what I'm going to do about upgrades at this point. Shoot with what I have at this point as my gear money grows and wait.

If fluorescent lights are present, just make sure you set the shutter speed lower than 1/120.

love the (double) rainbow - I was never able to get a whole rainbow where I live with my 15-85..

Yup - I'll sell off a few lenses and start saving... when a body purchase is imminent I'll sell my 60D... in the mean time the 60D treats me quite well

thanks for the tip - I don't know what different shutter speeds do to video although I guess higher would make them smoother for fast action... won't be too much action at a 65th wedding anniversary, me tinks

Out Dragon Boat Festival is tomorrow and I have been wanting to approach an organizer to get access to the island where you get the best photos of teams approaching the finish line.

Walking near the set-up site today and saw my boss, standing next to the Event's Manager! Next thing I know I'm now the official Photographer
the usual one could not make it....

big day tomorrow - Dragon Boat races and then the 65th Anniversary party...

Wish I could have got the double too, but it was raining and when I'd tilt the lens any higher the rain would hit it. I was having a hard enough time keeping it off the front as it was.
