That or maybe the EF 70-200 f/4 IS USM. I am tiring of the size and weight of the f/2.8 lens. I only take it with me when I KNOW I am going to use it. Interested? Really, I am still debating. I don't have it listed for sale..., yet.

Just to be clear, my Sigma is NOT for sale at this time. I will post it on the SALE board if and when I decide to sell it. I have been on POTN for a month and have no track record. I doubt if anyone would buy from me right now, anyway.

So glad I took the Tamron

I know this may be a tad late, sorry. This thread caused me to get out my Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 OS HSM and do a few comparisons. I have to agree with Talley's summation. This lens is weak at 200mm and f/2.8, even in the center. I have nothing to compare it to, however.

All in all, I am satisified with the lens, but if I were buying today, I'd seriously consider the Tamron VC. I only notice how soft my Sigma is if I shoot at 200mm AND f/2.8 and I pixel-peep. For a hobby shooter like me, this lens is quite nice. At least I can get some shots at f/2.8. They look fine on-screen and I am sure they would make perfectly nice 8x10 prints. That said, this lens does improve, A LOT, by stopping down. F/3.2 is better and f/3.5 is quite good.

For us amateurs, the Sigma OS still represents a good choice. If it cost the same as the Tamron, I'd pass. But at a substantial savings for a used copy, it is worthy of consideration. About $900 for the Sigma used is a substantial savings over the $1500 Tamron. With unlimited funds, I'd be shooting the EF 70-200 f/2.8 IS USM II, as would we all.
