Here's my first shot (brother's kid). Wide open

Beautiful light. Great exposure and focus is spot on.

Question, where do you shoot most with this? 1.8 or 2.8? (I just bought it).

I'm still learning my way around fast lenses so I tend to shoot wide open or close to it most of the time. So far, the only issue I've run into is a lot of CA wide open shooting contrasty subjects like metalic objects. The CA is easily removed with todays editing software.

When I had mine and shot portraits it was usually between f/2.8 & f/4.

My sister, the professional baker and cake decorator once told me that my camera takes great pics. My reply was that I thought her oven baked great cakes.

Thanks.

Yes, I've seen shots taken (by other people) at 2.8 are extremely good. At 1.8 usually one eye is focused meanwhile the other one isn't. Practice is the key I guess, took like 5 shots so far.

Obviously the camera to subject distance makes all the difference. I find that full length shots are perfectly fine wide open (what need to be in focus is indeed in focus). However, I tend to stop down a smidgen for improved sharpness. I shoot it at 2.0-2.2 a lot.

Thanks Cory, I'll keep that in mind.

Looks like it's flickr's doing!

Here's the original sharpening that I added before uploading it :/
