This is a perfect example of how composition trumps lens quality, you see this photo and you don't even want to pixel peep or analyze its borders, why? Because it looks like a painting...

I've always loved the 40D and I keep on recommending it, the Tamron is a great lens too and that's not even their best.

The 40D is still a great camera. Mine is retired now and I keep telling myself I should sell it as it doesn't deserve to sit on a shelf, but I'm kind of attached to it and besides, they're not worth a whole lot these days, and as mine is a great copy (61000 actuations and never failed me once, never an error, nothing) I think it's nice to have it around just in case my other two cameras (oldies too) fail me. :)

The Tamron 55-200 is a great lens indeed. Costs like nothing but is great value for money. Flawed somewhat mechanically of course, but optics far better than you would expect from such a humble lens. Infinitely better than the Sigma 70-300 I bought first (and returned after one day of shooting with it - it was bloody awful).

Thanks man. The kit lens is ok as long as you stop it down to F10-F16 and not go pixel peeping.

I just want to apologize. I was in a real pissy mood yesterday after being haggled by Someone off craiglist. I tend to forget that we all start off somewhere. Pethaps I can help though. I know I'm a bit OCD about images being in focus without any motion bLur. Normally before I edit an image, I try to zoom in 100% and check for OOF and/or blurry images.

That aside, it appears you shot the image of the bird on a relatively clear and sunny day. There's only 2 reasons (I can think of) why you would have a shaky image.

1) simply shaky hands
2) too slow of a shutter because you're stopping down far too much (ex: f/22)

Try shooting at f/5.6 or faster. You should get a shutter around 1/500 or better. If not, bump the ISO to 200. Hope that helps. Sorry for being snarky yesterday. Keep on shooting!

Huge credit to you mate for this post. I mean that sincerely.

Just doing the right thing. I love this forum and would hate for it to not love me. I've learned so much thanks to the community here at POTN that it'd be a slap in the face to not contribute back. Just giving back what I owe. ;)
