Argh, I saw the 100mm f2.8L macro listed last night and thought I'd sleep on it and decide today. Now it's OOS. That's what I get for waffling.:(

I don't know if it will work or not, but add a couple of the new lens caps to you order. They 're not refurbished, but perhaps it will work. You can sell them if you don't want them.

Thanks for the suggestion -- that's exactly what I did, but it didn't work. Funny thing was I couldn't remove the lens caps from the shopping cart without being sent to an error page -- Canon sure has sloppy programmers working their site.

The part that kind of sucks is it's off your total cart value. If you put a 10-22 and a 50 1.4 in your cart, you only get the $100 off, so you only save $50 each. Have to do it in separate transactions. FYI.

If steroids are illegal for athletes, should PS be illegal for models?

If $100.00 savings is really important, you can just do two transactions, its free shipping on both seperate orders anyway.

Same thing here. I should have add it to the cart before the sale. Because I noticed the 400mm I added to my cart prior to the sale when I check it is on sale with 100 less.

I prefer a prime in the long telephoto catagory, a little better IQ and I will most likely stay at the 400mm end any way, a little less expensive also, the only thing I would have liked is for it to have IS.

I agree. I prefer this too, If I don't already have the 300mm I would get this too. Great choice Robert.

Is a refurbished EF 17-40 f/4L USM lens worth $619 (tax included) or would it be better to wait for a new one to hit $739 (no tax via Amazon)?

Refurb lenses from Canon are typically brand new. I bought two refurb lenses from them last year, one is the 17-40, they arrived in immaculate conditions and functions as designed. It's silly to buy brand new at a higher cost, unless you want the fancy retail box? Either way, you get a 1 year warranty.

I managed to pick up a 2x III for $371 with Virginia tax. Beats the going rate of $499 for new.

I just picked up the Canon EF 2X III for $349 shipped (it shows $399 on the site but put it in your cart and it's subtracts $50 at checkout for $349 & free shipping final price). Even with California's outrageous tax it's still $60 - $70 cheaper than the going price used and over $120 less than it is new. Now that's more like it Canon...

I've been on the fence - still can't decide whether an extender is worth the price. Will wait till I can try one ..

That's what I was going to do too but then I looked into renting one and it was about $30 - $35 for a week (w/tax & insurance). So, I figured at this price I can try it out and if I like it then there's no money wasted on a rental. Once the sale is over, if I decide it's not for me, I should be able to sell to someone who wants one for about what I paid for it and I'd break fairly even, but not if I had to eat a $30 - $35 rental fee too.

I think I may have over-thought this a bit :)
