Hood isn't huge- and if you leave it on, it protects the focus motor. This lens has a reputation for focus motors breaking, because the motor is linked directly to the front element. If there's uneven pressure on the front of the lens, it can break the motor. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks. If the hood is not big, will go for it.

Thanks. It is a very picturesque city and 50mm (on a full-frame) was just the right focal length to capture the highlights from this location.

Love your food photos, Alvin.
Question: Do you whip out a tripod and softbox when you're at the restaurants?
All joking aside, how do you shoot this stuff? Just handheld? The lighting is just so perfect on all of them.

Sony A7RII and a bunch of lenses.

hahaha thx buddy! there are many times i wish i could use a tripod, reflectors etc. but unfortunately as a food blogger, even using flash is frowned upon :(

all my food photos are just a Canon 6D body and a 50mm f/1.4 lens... my personal photography style uses natural light exclusively so it's just me, my camera and a fast prime lens... i shoot handheld but since i am sitting down to eat, it's pretty easy to shoot at 1/60-1/80 with low ISO for nice, clean imagery...
