As a matter of fact, Scotland does not produce whiskey. It produces a lot of whisky though!

I believe whiskey and whisky are both acceptable spellings for the same liquid.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

'Whiskey' is Irish (and American, I believe) and 'whisky' is Scotch.

Scottish! Unless you mean it's Scotch whisky.

Calm down Pat. I'd hardly call a couple of posts 'can't stop arguing'. In any case, a little discussion like this is not really doing you any harm is it. I repeat - calm down.

When the car freaks get going about vehicles, I just skim and scroll until I hit something that interests me. Could language freaks please get the same indulgence from members who use words but haven't made an avocation (or a vocation) of examining them and thinking about them?

American is whiskey unless it's made in the style of Scotch whisky. If you've tasted any of the Scotch-style American whiskys then you know what the joke is.

Unintentional shot from the car on holidays.
Only when I got back to 'Broken Sydney' did I see this portent.

So I'm reading a book this morning on my Kindle and notice the word "Whisky" used in it.

I highlight the word to see what Amazon will define the word as? I liked and approve of the phrase 'Water of Life'

whis·key or whis·ky : Can be spelled either way

Irish uisce beatha & Scottish Gaelic uisge beatha, literally, water of life
First Known Use: 1715

I thought you criticised us for arguing over this and now you're joining in:D

There are indeed two spellings of the word but I repeat - 'whisky' is for Scotch Whisky, 'whiskey' is for Irish (and, for instance' Bourbon).

But I also posted a funny photo, which is what this thread is about. There is nothing funny about arguing over spelling.
