Maybe I am out of line, but come on folks, QUIT cross posting the same images on multiple threads!!!

Please excuse my ignorance, but why?

Suppose I post a photo here, since it was taken with an 85mm. I might also do it on the 6D thread, since it was with a 6D, and not all folks with 6Ds have 85mm f1.8 lenses, so might not see it otherwise. Lastly, I would value the opinion of the folks over in the South-East UK thread, since my shot was taken in London, and perhaps none of them frequent either the 6D or 85mm threads.

As I mentioned, post it on one or two threads, but posting it on every possible thread is a bit of overkill. Especially when the lens this photo was taken with is not the lens the thread was created to spotlight.

Quick tip Ron (ETA: and anyone else unaware of this) - if you remove the "[IMG] tags when quoting, you won't re-post the image - just the link to the image...saves space on the server and doesn't end up with a page filled with the same image over and over...I highlighted t in this example:

Thanks BL. I had been having issues with figuring out which ones were the ones that took out the image. I tried on a few other post, but it ended up looking like I was talking to myself. LOL

Although I also prefer links to images repeated in quoted posts, by not doing so doesn't take up space on the forum server and neither does the image in the original post. The image is still located at the host site, ie; Flickr, Smugmug, personal website, etc. The image tags and url only point to and display the image there, it doesn't move the image to the server here. It's called hotlinking. When an image is 'hotlinked' without the permission of the host site, that's called bandwidth theft.

Images that are added here as an attachment however, do take up space on the server and the file is actually stored in the forum database after attachment instead of the posters hard drive.

I know what BL was referring too. I also understand that it does not take up space on the server, but what it does do is take time for images, and sometimes the same images multiple times being loaded on the page. I you have a cache server, like I do at work it recognizes the link as the same and just pulls the image from the cache. I am not sure that Joe User on their machine at home has that same luxury.
It is kind of like what I mentioned on someone posting the same image on multiple threads. It does not hurt the server, but when I see a new post on a thread I subscribe too and it is the same image on all of the threads, I kind of get a little annoyed. Just a personal problem I need to get over, but at least a few people have mentioned that is bothers them as well.

Quack - do you live in Des Moines year round? I'll be there for Christmas. Would be cool to meet up to shoot if you're not too busy.
