B&H, my favorite store in the entire universe (and I think Adorama though I'm not positive) offer between 2 and 4 percent giveback when you buy qualifying items.

As I'm enamored and stuck on constantly clicking on their sites and looking at the 200-400, at a whopping 11,799, I see on B&H's site that they offer a very nice 4 percent giveback of sorts. Now I've not looked into it, but why do I think/wish that it'd just be nice if they simplified it and took 4 percent off the price?

I guess it's because, as my title of this thread says, I don't understand business.

Because the percentage off is good on a future purchase. You can only take advantage of it if you buy something else within 90 days, I think. So now they have incentivised you to make additional purchases.

Another thing is that Canon has a strict MAP pricing so discounting might conflict with Canon's MAP.

Now with them offering the 4% giveback, they can use it as a store coupon that doesn't conflict with Canon's MAP.

The owner of B+H is a Hasidic Jew and from what I've read so are most of the employees. They're very strict about following the ways of their religion.

B&H and Adorama will close for Jewish holidays. This week is the big one. Happens ever year at this time. Still two of the best places on earth to buy gear, though.

If you ever have a chance to actually visit B&H, I highly recommend it. A bunch of Orthodox Jews for the most part, and pretty much the BEST customer experience I've ever had anywhere. They are friendly, know when to leave you alone, extremely knowledgeable, patient, and will spend lots of time teaching you if that's what you want. Oh, and it's HUGE.

Howdy,

...and there I was in NYC this week for the first time in over 30 years, just blocks away from B&H and Adorama and they were closed :o. I knew they would be closed before I left LA but not before my wife had made the flight reservations months ago :(.

You can probably talk with other stores lile Roberts, Allen camera and see if they can price match with 4% lower price that B&H.

These sum it up.
