I have literally been looking at lenses all day. Need some sense talked into me. I mostly shoot portraits, my daughter around the house at the park etc, and some sports (in and outdoor).

Current lineup:
Sigma 18-35 1.8
Sigma 50 1.4
Sigma 50-150 1.8 OS
Sigma 1.4x

looking at:
Keeping the 18-35
selling 50 1.4 (hardly used it at anything bigger than f2)
Selling 50-150
selling Sigma 1.4x
getting Sigma 70-200 2.8 OS

I would lose the 50mm FL, but I think 70mm would be okay for portraits too.
This would be just about zero net cost to me.
I COULD get a used Canon 70-200 2.8 L IS II, would be about $700-800 net (used)
Budget is sort of a factor. But I'm also thinking I would never buy a zoom again if I did that.

This will be used with a 70D. So what would you do if you were in my shoes? Thanks

Dustin

As you said, once you buy the 70-200ii you won't need to buy a zoom ever again. I liked 50mm on a crop for portraits, but you could always pick up a 50 1.8 if you wanted to keep that FL.

i wouldn't buy anything...i'd rather have an 18-35mm, and a 50-150mm than having a gap between 35 and 70mm...

If I were in the OP's situation, I'd do this ^... Until I went FF, I didn't really use the 70-200 that much because 70mm on crop really is quite long...

I agree, I have the 70-200 2.8 and its wasted on my 60D hence the reason (One of the reasons) I am going FF. and gonna just keep my 50mm 1.8 and 70-200 to start with and get a 24-105 and leave it at that.. :-)
Question is do I get the 5D mk3 or the 6D... :-)

Why are you dissatisfied with your current line up?

Probably boils down to two main factors... 1) do you need the mega AF system? 2) can you afford it? :p

well, if you are gonna give £1200 out for a 6D you might as well spend £1900 for a 5d mk3.. :-)

thanks for the input. im now weighing keeping the 50 and still selling the 50-150/1.4xtc, and getting the 70-200. tests ive seen have shown IQ is about the same, but i would get an extra 50mm on the long end. and after looking at some pics taken with the 50, i dont think i can get rid of it.

what are you trying to shoot that you're coming up short? i feel like if 150mm isn't cutting it 200mm really won't either...

Kids sports. I know it's not that much more but the IQ from 150-200 would be better than with the TC. I had a100-400 but needed more light.

Did an unscientific test today, ordered the 70-200 from amazon, will see how it compares on the long end (as well as through the range). 100% crops from 70D. Might also be helpful for someone looking into the 50-150+1.4x TC combo.
