I read somewhere in the mound of info I have sorted thru in the last month that the SX50 would record both a RAW and JPEG file simultaneously. I suppose that is a selectable option in the Menu and a shooting we will go........so now I assume it is recorded on the media card and ready to download to my computer and I insert that card in my computer. If that is so and it goes to a dated folder in "MY Picture's" as my S3IS did,,,,,,,,,,,what's next..... when I open this folder do I see a ICON representing the RAW file and right beside it the JPEG image both numbered the same or is it two separate folders or what have you...... and another question comes to mind,,,,,,,,,,,how many of these dual recorded shots can you get on a 8GB card?

Page 275 of the manual. But ISO, scene complexity, etc. will affect this so it's at best an estimate.

Now that I have the SX50 in hand what good does the RAW+JPEG do for me when I can't see an image. When I upload to the computer it goes to MY Computer and is just a dated RAW file in a folder, what happened to the JPEG. I sure don't know much about all this crapola, where's the dummy icon?

Install Digital Photo Professsional from the cd that came with the camera if you haven't already. Open DPP, turn on Folder View if it's not the default setup. Find the folders in question and open them in DPP.

People who've worked with SX-50 raws more than I have recommend converting the raw to 16-bit TIFF in DPP, then opening that in Photoshop for editing, before outputting as an 8-bit jpeg as the last step. You can, however, do basic editing in DPP and output a jpeg from there. Of course, you could do that now and later come back to the raw file and go the Photoshop route for a second try.
