Yea, take a long lens.

I shot her last week, we were stuck at the back of the standing area, next to the sound desk.

The sound desk guys were up on nice 2' tall risers.
We were all standing at ground level, so my first few frames have the bottom half obscured by glowing phone screens.

Cheers for the heads-up! I've hired a 120-300 for versatility's sake, it was either that or a 400/2.8 and I couldn't handle lugging that around.

" back of the venue on the floor just in front of the mixing desk. Bring a long lense" was the only indication of location, so I'm hoping it really isn't flat on the floor. I honestly don't know whether to be 'that guy' bringing a stepladder.

If that's what they said, I would take a short stepladder (or a milk crate, or something to stand on, Pelican Cases are great, especially the bigger sizes)

Hope the shoot goes well.

Folding step-stool was quickly acquired this afternoon, was thinking I should have hired a 400L just so I could stand on the case instead!

Went well! Two and a half songs sure does go past fast.

The 400 cases aren't as strong as they appear - trust me (work has a few busted cases sitting around, including a 500 case that's missing it's top handle)

And the 2 1/2 songs - if the show was anything like Perth, that first 10 second intro where she is in the black coat, with minimal light, counts as a song.

Glad it went well for you though mate !

For which gig ?

For Rihanna in Perth, from the sound desk, a 400mm on a 1.3 crop body (1d4) worked pretty well, and a 70-200 to shoot the whole stage
