Hi all

Looking for some advice on which of these to keep & which to sell! (A word of warning though - even though they're decent quality hardware, I still only regard myself as a 'novice'!)

I originally started off with a 450D with it's kit lens, and that was it!

I read about the 55-250 IS zoom lens so got that (and still have it... and it's produced some wonderful pics for me!)

I then rented a 24-105L for a weeks hols (and so later, bought) and was blown away by the pics I got with that too!

I've now gone and splashed out on a Canon 17-55 f2.8 USM to replace my kit lens.

So now - what do I sell to recoup some of the money I've spent. The obvious choice would be the cheaper 55-250 zoom....but it's performance-to-cost reputation is well known, and it would be a natural companion for my now (standard) 17-55 f2.8 walkabout lens & would be a natural progression for the range it would offer upwards.

The awesome 24-105L - though giving me outstanding results (in it's range) actually now seems surplus to requirements given the quality of the non-L lens 55-250 zoom.

If YOU were to have these 3 lenses what would YOU do...??

Thanks for any advice!

Hello and welcome ~

you need to decide how often and how much do you like to shoot wide and that will help you begin to decide whether the 24-105 goes or the 17-55 2.8.

Seems to me the 24-105 should go...

then decide how often and how much do you enjoy shooting at 250mm and would you much rather prefer 300mm or longer.

If you end up liking the longer reach you could consider a 70-300mm for example. The Tamron 70-300mm is a good bargain or heck go for the EF 70-300L IS

just some thoughts ~

Hehe I'd sell the 24-105 and get the 70-200 IS (maybe in the future).

If i had a nickle....

There's a reason my Flickr name is LenzFreak, i go through them like water.

I've spent so much time buying and then selling lenses to recoup only to end up buying them again later it's silly.

My only advice...Keep what you use the most. It's fun to explore yes, but stick to what works and what you like to shoot.

In the long run only your can decide that but despite what others may say...it doesn't have to have the red ring on the front for you to achieve the shots you want. I will say though that the 70-200L has been one of the best investments i have ever made, and though i have the F/4 non IS version it works perfectly for what i need it to do.

I think it moved beyond that point some time ago

When i shot with film SLRs i was content with what little lenses i had.

I only moved into to digital about 5 years ago and have completely lost count of how much glass i've swapped, sold and bought. The only lens in my collection that is completely safe is my 100L macro
