Official Automotive Rigs - DIY Thread

1. Rig a vinyl wrapped car at your own risk.
2. Rig a matte finish car at your own risk.
3. Always wax (basic carnuba, no quick detail) the area you plan to put the cups before the shoot, then the black ring wipes right off.
4. Your experience with the Avenger is why wouldn't sell them to my worst enemy.
5. I will put any value you like on the customs forms, they can't touch me, only cause trouble for you if the value is too low.

I've never had an issue getting my avengers to release, just by holding my hand around the swivel and pressing against the tab on the cup with my thumb.

160 for 3 cups Nice, i think i spent around 100 USD on one wood cup setup..

When i first started i didn't think about paint prep lol, would wash my car and i saw rings from the cups..

Now i start with a clean car and make sure the car has a nice coat of wax on it, when i remove the cups i wipe off with a detailing microfiber towel, If you forget, should just take a quick re-wax, i would use a real carnuba wax not any of that quick detail crap, and the rings went away for me.. I use a company called "chemical guys" for all my wax and car wash stuff..

Thanks, the background was actually an underpass to the convention center around my area. The last shot of the RX-7 was actually the loading zone for customers at Ikea

I'm not being a hater, but more and more images on here could be done identically using the much easier car to car (tracking) technique.

Why do people insist on using a rig (and all the pitfalls that go with it) when the same effects can be done tracking with an image stabilising lens?

Don't get me wrong, I love rig shots, but I'm also all for keeping things easy and simple.

I'd love to see you get yourself and your camera, under 1 foot off the ground safely, while doing a rolling shot at 60 to 100 kmh.

I think it would be extremely hard to impossible to get the same angles as you can on a rig shot, also you have a lot more control of the out come, and you're not risking dropping your camera out the window of a moving car.

Call me crazy, but I like rigging cars, it's one of the few times that I'm behind the camera that I actually have "fun".
