Guys are you serious right now? Of course Canon will respond to the A7R.

I am sure their bosses are panicking as we speak, and since two days ago they are already scrambling to redesign the 7DII into a full fledged video cam with ISO 9000000.

Relax and have some faith.

LOL! :D

Bundled with an EF-S 14-24 f/4 IS.

The trouble is I've been waiting for over a year for the 7D2 and it's still not even announced. Even if they announce it soon, when would it be available ? ? ? How much ? ? ? How would they cripple it to protect the 5D3 sales ? ? ?

I've just sent an email to my brother I law to see what staff discount I can get :D I am genuinely excited by the A7R..............

I'm afraid that if you are waiting for the 7D2...then you probably will be disappointed with the A7R. Totally different type of cameras...unless you want the 7D2 for your action camera and the A7R for your portrait and/or landscape camera.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. I was hoping the 7D2 would have a less aggressive AA filter and be revolutionary like the original was, a one size fits all body for me. I've always fancied the D800 and the A7R seems to be a perfect compromise. I can sell off a few lens I'm not using much and buy some glass for it.

I'm curious to know what is lost when using metabones adapters to attach EF lenses to the A7.

Ouch! What is lost besides the $400 for the adapter!

^ AF speed, but not much.

The AF will be 100% accurate, but just a little bit slower than usual, which is completely fine for most shooting. :) Unless you are a sports photographer ofc.

There are no optics in adapters, so you won't lose image quality like you do with teleconverters.

Look at it this way, for less than the cost of a 5D III or D 800 you can get a 36 Mp Exmor sensor that will take all of your current Canon glass. :D:cool:

Thats exactly how I look at it. I just shudder to think what Canon will want for a 36mpix camera with new sensor tech.

That depends on whether or not it's in a 1D body. . . . . non 1 series body equals 6500, 1 series body equals 12k. ;)

You can be sure that Canon will want to market their high MP sensor as something "new, magical and amazing", and therefore they will put it in a 1D-body. That is typical Canon procedure.

In Canon's mind, none of us shooters have ever experienced a 35+ MP camera before. How could we? Canon haven't released one yet. So when they finally make one, Canon will market it as a "superduper luxury" camera.

Besides, I'm still not sure if Canon can up their decade old DR output.

The people who need ultra-high resolution and dynamic range generally aren't the same people who need gripped bodies...

I think I've figured out how Canon price their cameras. They look at gear registration info and CPS gear lists and make an "average" gear list for the type of shooter they think will want their new body. Then they figure how much it will cost this hypothetical shooter to sell off all of their Canon gear to replace it with Nikon gear. Then they calculate their disincentive savings. How much below the total replacement cost does their new body need to be to keep you from switching? Voila, that's the cost of the new body.
