Oct 17, 2013 16:04 | #2 I like the first one except I don't like the fallen tree. Sorry, I think that was part of the point and that you took this shot to intentionally include the tree but I find the tree is just distracting. I'm also not sure if the horizon is straight or not which is weird. If I base how level the horizon is on the mountains in the background, then it's not straight and leaning to the left; but if I base it on the green grass in the background, then it's still not straight but leaning to the right. The second picture I don't really care for at all and I think the third would have been good had it not been shot when the sun was so bright and directly overhead. Just my two cents though.. FYI: "Fitness Freak" is also known as "Amber" outside of POTN.

For example, the fallen tree looks like it was probably a pretty cool sight! Maybe try recomposing to emphasize that tree -- and de-emphasize the golf course (remove it) -- the fall colors are way more interesting.

I like all the colors in there including the greens in the background. I would have kept more sky though because the mountains are at the very top of the image. http://www.pbase.com/goldbough

The light is good in all 3 and it looks like a beautiful area however producing something beyond "nice light" is a little more challenging. Do you scout your scenes prior to shooting? Like starting 2-3 hours before the best light and really making the rounds as to what will produce the most dramatic shot? I have one shot at sunset because there is no way I can be in more than one place at a time unless they are pre-scouted and I can make the switch in less than 15 minutes. In general I find the best scenic possible and sit with it. If there is no real shot beyond "great light" and I am shooting film which is my mainstay I will not shoot anything. I have gotten very picky and mostly because I have loads of crap from not being picky.

The colors are nice in both, but composition could use some improvement. If you wanted the fallen tree to be the subject of the first shot, I would have gotten down closer to it, right now the shot is a landscape shot with a fallen tree in the mid-ground.
