Gear question.

I know it is all personal preference and a lot also depends on money. Is there a huge difference anymore between Canon “L” and the newer Sigma lenses? Looking in the sample section and I see good and bad of both companies. I would like to add to my existing collection of lenses, a whole 3 right now, and would also like to possibly upgrade what I have. I was thinking adding a Canon 135 or the Sigma 150 or 180 in the future but not sure which company is the better one. I hate to buy a Sigma and then upgrade to a Canon later on because of the better picture quality. I rather buy the best and be done.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Kevin

We must have been close to each other on that last one.. :)

I was looking at the EXIF Yip, and the date looks to be a day off??

Cool! You probably talked to me at some point. I had my son with me. The exif data error was probably because I was testing a 70D and don't know if I even set the date!
I had an interesting series at Coolidge last year. Pilot stalled about 10' off the runway. I had my 1Dx cranking 12 fps and caught the whole thing except for the 2 frames where I let off the shutter button to consider running for my life! I stitched them all into one picture which showed how out of shape the plane got before the pilot recovered!
Going to Copperstate?

That's funny. Yes we did speak! I had the sx50 along with my 5d3. We spoke about his (i believe) Fuji camera..

Great stuff!!

I usually go to Copperstate as well. I'll have to lookup the dates..

Any thoughts on the 70d in that environment? The exposures look great!

Copperstate is the 25-26th of this month.

70D worked really well and gave me some nice images for the web. Compared to the 5D mk3 and 1Dx which I also use, it doesn't give quite the detail when enlarged for print. It was wearing the 70-200 f2.8L II which I've had for a while. I know it wasn't due to the lens. The AF system worked great tracking planes. And it's burst is a touch faster than the 5D mk3.
Once again, IQ-wise I am comparing it to Canon's top dogs. Stand alone, it'll be just fine. I actually bought it for video use cause it does continuous AF. It works incredibly well for that and it's video looks every bit as good as the 5D mk3. The 1Dx still has better color rendering. I like the tilt out screen and how small and light it is. I don't have a battery grip on it.

I couldnt find a parking space on the way up so had lunch with the Daughter in Flagstaff then hit Walnut Canyon Monument..... and missed the light through Sedona on the way back. Frustrating camera operator day.
