The people who need ultra-high resolution and dynamic range generally aren't the same people who need gripped bodies...

I know.

But all rumors about the high res sensor are pointing towards a 1D body, and It wouldn't surprise me if it turns out that way.

Canon + Sony = CaSony. I'm so tempted to order the A7r but, I want to see samples with the EF adapter. :)

Fred Miranda has preordered the A7R and bought the metabones adapter. He said that he'll post a review of the A7R and how well works with all of Canon's top lenses, including the 17mm and 24mm TS-E.

JD How about the ability to use Leica M glass? The 50 Cron APO or the .95 nocti or even the 35 lux FLE or 90 cron?

I would also like to see how things work with the adapter.

Maybe I get this as the backup to the Leica M for my professional work?

First big review is up. Not the most detailed review I've ever seen, but they had some interesting stuff to say.

Looking good. However, I'm still waiting for DPreview.

I read that Fred ordered the whole kit with grip! :) My main concern is with the adapter and 17 TS-E. I want to be able to fully shift without vignetting. :)

What a product by Sony! Kudos!

It will devastate the Canon DSLR body division but actually make the Canon lens division even stronger since now they can be used in other systems outside of the Canon ecosystem.

Think new Canon lenses are overpriced? Lots (and lots) of data will set you free!

Very curious here about those particular combinations too - I await the results with much anticipation. A7R would make a lot of sense for my architecture/interiors/landscape shoots as autofocus speed is a non-issue but IQ is.

Exciting new development. Why can't Canon swallow the pride, grovel to Sony and begin buying their sensors too (like Nikon)?

One company having a monopoly over any technology is a lose for everyone. I sincerely hope that Canon never stops innovating their own products. Them having the best stuff around for so long was what caused their slow down in sensor tech in the first place, give them another year or two, they'll catch up and looking at the past, probably exceed Sony anyway (we all hope, if their smart even Sony and Nikon users will hope so).

I do feel Canon is working on something. It may be a few years and right now they are only showing their products for video. Like their new security sensors that have recorded fire flys in pitch black.

They know what they are doing. It'll come eventually. I have no issues with their current FF sensors.

Waiting to see how the adapter works. Could be some vignetting issues with M lenses to.

JD don't you have a set up that you don't need to worry about any of that with? ;):D

Good point. Competition is good. A7R would be a good equipment to have until Canon develops a sensor that would (hopefully) leapfrog current technology with a competitive price. I hear some voices willing to jump ship completely but for me, the three TS-E lenses I have are major investments and there are simply no equals in their class. For the immediate future A7R + TS-E lenses is a win-win combination for me and I am eagerly awaiting real field test reviews to come out (Fred Miranda, i.e.).

Most definitely ;)

I'm strongly considering picking up one of these bodies as well, probably not for a good while though. When I initially saw it I was super excited, but after thinking about it, there's really nothing I dislike about my 6D that the a7 would better me for (other than size), so no need to make the hop yet :)

I'm waiting to hear how the auto focus is. I'm an RX1 owner and while the high ISO processing is great, the AF in non-perfect light is bad, and awful in low light. Enough to make me not want to bother sometimes. If the AF is improved, I'll sell my RX1 and hopefully get the A7r + lens combo for not too much more. Still not sure though. Not really shooting digital that much these days. If there's a Leica M-mount adapter, then I may not bother with any of the native lenses assuming manual focus is intuitive.
