I was just researching ultra wide zooms, not much there and IQ is lacking a bit, AND they cost a lot more. I think I'm just gonna have to get me this one, save some cash. The samples are fantastic!

Have to read up on the focus confirm chip thing, that sure would be nice to have.

I and my wallet thank you all :-)

If you have Magic Lantern installed on your camera, you can use focus peaking too.

I have to look into magic lantern, last time I checked the version for the 5D3 was not "final", kind of waiting for that.

Is it Monday yet? :-)

You guys really make me want to get this lens. Ilove my 8mm fisheye but want a lens that doesn't vignette on full frame. This is my next lens for sure.

That's a nice looking Nubian goat over there. Is this an Urdu-speaking area?

Canons to the left, Canons to the right,
We hold our L glass toward the light,
Digitizing in a snap reflective glory
That will forever tell our imaged story.

play around with the lens before you do anything. it's dof is huge, and keeping the focus ring around 3-7 feet will get most shots in focus. Just play with it for a while, you'll figure it out. Around 7 feet and stopped down a little, everything gets in focus. I don't use ML anymore, and it wouldn't help a ton with this lens. It's just so easy to hyperfocus.

Just got mine today.....did the brick wall test and it's sharp from corner to corner. Adobe lens profiler installed and it did a pretty good job of fixing the mustache distortion. Scale is off by a few degrees, but oddly, infinity is almost dead on. Went for a walk in the evening with my dog....kinda dark and cloudy to do much .... set it to the hyperfocal distance and just started shooting randomly ..... everything was well within focus.

Lucked out, I guess !!

got mine yesterday and played a bit with it, very impressed! Still have to find a brick wall, but as far as I can tell everything is sharp. I'll still get the AF confirm chip (any recommendations? Found one on ebay that they can program to a fix EXIF (most seem to show a 50mm lens) so I'd have it set to 14mm and probably f8 I guess)

Mainly for very close focus handheld (meaning I can't really use live view and 10x magnification all that easy) as for landscape I set it between 1 and 2 feet, f5.6 or higher, everything sharp. No problems with vignetting either, even all the way open, very little flare, even with the sun in the image. Nice star shape for sun peeking through leaves at f22. Damn, this lens is wide! Love it so far. Hope I find time to take it to town today a bit.

edit to add: will mostly use this on 5D3 but also on 40D and what ever might come home in the coming years.
