Not sure if this has been addressed somewhere else but I have an event coming up (Sweet 16) and I have a pretty basic model release allowing me to use photos for my website, advertisement, etc. But this parent doesn't feel comfortable signing the release for her daughter. Has anyone come across this situation? This is the first time that someone has ever not wanted to sign a release. Thank you in advance.

Then personally I wouldn't shoot the event. Not having a signed release can come back to bite you in the butt.

I was going to have the mom sign the Release but change the language.

Did they hire you for this event? If so I find it odd they wouldn't want to sign the release. What are the father's reasons? Like the flying moose said. If they aren't willing to sign, you aren't willing to shoot. That simple. Tell them all your clients sign the release and you consider that a necessary step before you can even consider shooting.

What does your release state? How is it worded?

I would explain your pricing included the model release, otherwise it will be 20% more. After all-she wouldn't have hired you if she never saw samples of your work.

This was my thoughts exactly. You could also explain to the family what exactly the release allows you to do, and what it doesn't allow you to do.

+1
As the parents are wanting exclusive rights to the photos, their price should be appropriately higher.
