Just happy with how things work out sometimes and just want to post about it. That's all.
Bear with me here.
Here’s how it worked out. I sold some equipment that I either no longer used or needed, which netted me enough to purchase the lens, however, yesterday, I was on the phone with my credit card company about redeeming some reward mileage for a hotel stay and the rep told me that I could upgrade to their new cash reward program (uh, ooh something fishy right). She stated that I had 134,781 reward miles (built up over years of not using them) that would convert to $1,348.71 under the new program; well that got my chops wet. Nevertheless, I put on my accountant hat, did some research and asked lots of questions. To make a long story short, I converted and took the cash. I was off to get the lens (list price $1,999 after $300 rebate, plus 4% cash reward). Man, I thought that was a good deal until I came across a thread on here and FM talking about the lens was selling for $1,699, after rebate, plus 4% reward, but the deal had just ended; I got sick (not literally, but you know what I mean) – dammm I said. Me being me and not giving up, I called an online retailer (10/25) to inquire about the deal and bam, I got the deal, $1,699 after rebate, plus 4% cash reward. The lens will be home Monday. I hope I have no issues with the rebate, since I got the lens outside the sell date. Just think. I was willing to pay full price, but now I should get it for $600 less, with very little cash outlay. Whoooohoooooweeeeeeyeaahhhhbaby.
Here’s the breakdown:
$1,699 (after rebate)
$1,384 (cash reward)
$ 314 bottom line price
If I add in the $80 cash back reward, the lens cost me $234. I know it’s not cash in hand, but it’s less cash out of the hand.
