Tokina AT-X 16-28mm F2.8

I'm frankly quite surprised there isn't more activity with this lens. I'm planning on picking one up soon, should meet my wide angle needs pretty well with it's negligible distortion characteristics.

you know how it works: there will be 300 threads dedicated to debating the potential decentering issues or the microcontrast abilities in nostril photography, but only 4 people who actually post photos.

I suppose I've not been keeping up too well on that front. Is that a problem? Lens decentering is rather unfortunate?

LoL It's one of those things that is a risk with any new lens you buy. Mine was fine from the get-go but I find it exhausting to sift through the "What are the statistical odds my lens will have a defect?" questions. You'll love it!

Would love to see more photos taken with FF and this lens.

Very nice photos! Love the first two.

I have been thinking of the Canon 17-40L and the Tokina 16-28 for my 5DII. Leaning toward the Tokina because if the wider aperture, since I enjoy taking photos of the Auroras at slightly lower ISO speeds than when using the 17-40L.

On my 7D the Tokina 11-16 has been nothing but outstanding, too.

Have any of you folks switched to the Tokina from the 16-35L II? I'm all for saving money, but I don't necessarily want to buy a lens only to replace it later.

I'm basically at a crossroads. There are compelling reasons to go in either direction.

I have one question, I know the zoom direction is opposite of Canon's lenses (which is fine because I don't have any zoom lenses) but is the manual focusing direction also opposite? That could be slightly annoying.

MF is same direction as canon, zoom is typical tokina/nikon style.

As for what to buy, it's hard for me too, especially harder since I now want to try long exp photog and using it for video (on my sony vid camera, the 6 stops of internal ND is still too little).

Tokina sharper, less artefacts but more flare, cannot accept filters, cheaper. Canon opposite way around.

One more lens I'm considering to buy... when does it end?
