My 2nd time shooting an NFL game from the sidelines and I don't think that will ever get dull! Just such a rush and so much fun. Makes me wish I could do it every weekend!

Anyway, here are just a few of my favorites, rest on my site here: http://www.nickpompei.com/nfl2013 (external link)

Nice work. Did you use your 5D3? What lens were you using?

Yes I did - sorry for not including that info.

Main body: 5d3 & Canon 400mm 2.8IS II (rented the lens!)
2nd body: 7d with my 70-200 2.8IS

This is awesome! How did you get that gig? What a chance for some serious shooting. How did your 7D do?

btw...brilliant sharpness in those shots. You can see the raised skin under Dez Bryants tats.

Thanks! So I work with a video production team (Full Circle Intermedia) who does media/lifestyle branding for athletes. Kurt Coleman, one of the Eagles' safeties, is one of their clients. They also work for the NFL doing game day recording stuff. So they have connections. Their client base is growing so hopefully I will be able to land more gigs in the future

The 7d, for the money these days, is a great camera. Here is my shoot from last year:
https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1245430
I shot all of these with 2 7d's and the 400mm 2.8 IS Version I and same 70-200 2.8IS. Now, this was literally as hurricane Sandy was hitting so the weather sucked. But I think for my first time shooting an NFL game, that combo did awesome! I think I was the only guy using a 7d as a main body down there! haha, but hey, it certainly did a great job.

Now, using the 5d3 and it's autofocus system makes the 7d look like a dinosaur! But, it certainly can still hold it's own. You can really see in my raw files that the 7d shots come out with a ton of contrast compared to the 5d3. Sure different lenses, but usually my 70-200 needs a bit of contrast as the files are usually a bit flat. But the 5d3 is on another level and the autofocus system just rocks. I literally left it on Case 2 in AI Servo and it worked nearly perfectly all day. Didn't see the need to change it since it worked.

Thanks for the compliments!

Wow! Just followed your thread and blog. What an experience! I'm a teacher too and I can't even begin to wrap my head around an $8K lens! lol....You really have a knack for sports photography. Maybe some day I'll be able to afford the 5D3 and some fast L lenses.

Oh well thank you sir! These two games were awesome. And I soon as I found out I got this gig I knew I needed the 400. Sucks that every year I have to drop $400 just to rent it but surely beats spending $8k+ to own it! haha.

$400 to cover a game, I sure hope they are paying you well to make up for that.

Nice Set.

The $400 for the lens rental is pretty steep. At my local shop you can get a 400mm 2.8 for $220 for 1 day and $340 for an extended 3 day weekend.

Hey, I was at that game too! Also with my camera :)

However, I was not on the sidelines, I was in row 1 in section 117. My pictures don't quite measure up to yours, but here are some of the ones I grabbed. Being a Cowboys fan at the Linc with that much gear probably was ill-advised. I love having an entire stadium of people hate me though :P

Great set of photos. I really like #3 for the close up and #7 shows a great view of Romo "trying" to coordinate his offense. Nice job!
