I've made a video where I compared AF speed of 2 bodies (7D and 6D) and 2 lenses (Canon 24-105L and Tamron 24-70 2.8 VC).

There are all kinds of combinations of bodies and lenses in the video.

Split screen in video, shutter press sync'd, beep enabled and panned left/right to judge which camera acquires focus first. Center and upper AF points tested, both from infinity and MFD.

More info in the intro of the video.

Wow thanks for the unscientific test. What I can tell is is not on the camera but more on the lens. :p

The Tamron seems slower to focus and the Canon just spins like a camshaft. :)

Okay on the camera side. I really did not notice an significant advantage of either camera.

Did you notice that the Tamron is much faster on the 6D? Which is good because I use it on that body 99% of the time :)
I was also surprised to see that when comparing the two bodies with the same lens (Canon 24-105L) on average the 6D has better speed by a hair (believe me, I've seen this video probably 65 times :) )
When the Tamron used, the 6D is clearly faster than the 7D.

Do you think it would be drastically different with 5d3 vs 6d?
Thanks for the test!

I have a good feeling they would be pretty much the same on the centre point. However the 6d can focus better than the 5D3 in low light.
