Really nice shots and love #2. The original 1ds is old tech but still produces great images.

My sister, the professional baker and cake decorator once told me that my camera takes great pics. My reply was that I thought her oven baked great cakes.

I picked up a 1Ds last week for the low low price of 250€ (~350 USD) with a bit under 60k clicks on the shutter.
Unfortunately karma thought that this was too good a deal and killed my 1D mark II the same night by dropping it on it's head :( (the story is a bit longer than that, but I won't bore you with the details).

It's crazy how nice a picture you can get out of this 11 year old camera. And of course the feel of the pro body and the AF is a great thing. The speed (or lack of it) is not so great, but you can't have everything :D

I shoot parties for a living and use off camera flash, which raised a bit of a problem: wireless triggers.
Till now I used Yongnuo YN-622C triggers which let me use E-TTL and have a AF assist light (laser). But on the 1Ds (and 1D as far as I can tell) they freeze the camera after the exposure :(
Somebody recommended I try the new Pixel King PRO triggers with a YN-622C on top for AF assist and it works. No more freezing camera and AF assist (but it looks stupid with stacked triggers  ). Can't comment as far as exposure accuracy (the only TTL flash I have working right now is a MeiKe MK580 which also doesn't play well with the 1Ds), but the other features are great for our old cameras without flash menus (like setting manual power from the transmitter on ETTL/ETTL II flashes).

The strange setup:

And the first non testing or work picture from the 1Ds:

Love the colours and sharpness from the old girl. And the high ISO noise is manageable with modern software :)

I have the same problem with my Sigma 610... when i use ETTL II.. but i got option for Manual High and Manual Low.. these two works perfect on my 1Ds, both On camer and OFF camera with cord.

A lot of modern flashes (and triggers) seem to have problems with the 1Ds.

Could we make a list of what works? I'm guessing the 420EX, 550EX, 430EX (II), 580EX (II) should work. What about third party? When I get new flash tubes I can try the Metz 58 AF-1 and YN-568EX.

And a picture from tonight:

Sigma 24-70 EX DG macro, f 3.5. ISO 1000 (ACR seems to controll the noise quite well).

I have been using the 550EX and two 420EX speedlites with a ST-E2 transmitter on my 1D and 1Ds with good results and have used an old 540EZ from my old EOS-1n and also an Agfatronic 352CSI hammer head type flash set manually and triggered from the PC socket .

My original 1ds takes better pics than any canon ive ever used and have used all the latest. Its superior. Heavy and not as fast a screen time but the quality at even a humble 4mp is stellar. Rock on...

Hmmm.. that can't be true. I've only tried the 5Dmk3 out of the latest (6D, 5Dmk3, 1D-X ) and atleast the 5Dmk3 got much better overall quality on the images than my 1Ds. Sure the 1Ds is an amazing camera, still today and with good glas it can produce awesome photos, but it doesent beat the lastest cameras... atleast in my opinion. I want the 1Dsmk3 becuase that beast seems to kick most new cameras arses.
