The 5D3 AF is better than 6D, no argument with cheaper price.
For me 6D is better for me than 5D3, lighter and smaller body(because I travel and hiking a lot), built in wifi(very usefull "gimmick"), GPS(good for travel), exchangeable focus screen.

You forget, more to the point, Kin2son is not.

OuttaCtrl - Come to my house and you can try both? Bring your 6d and maybe we can test that also for its outer points. Look the guy in that video didn't say what light conditions were but to me they look like ISO256000, f1.4, 1/30 or worse. In that light (or even 1-2 stops more) in my opinion, the resulting pictures are going to be crap (sorry the language). Lighting makes bigger change than any ISO IMHO.

I really wish I had some time this yr as I would love to buy 120-300mm f2.8 OS and take to couple of night time football games with both cameras and try.

Regarding sports folks using center only, I can only speak of 1dmk2 vs 5dmk3. On 1dmk2 I mostly used center as it more sensitive and keeping center on chest is much easier than say outer point on the face. But using any points and with canon 300mm f2.8 IS I, 5dmk3 kicked my 1dmk2 in AF department. I didn't have 6d at the time so no tests with it. And I feel bad for letting go of my 1dmk2.

I find all this controversy about the 6D to be ridiculous. Why not accept the 6D for what it is, rather than what it isn't. If its feature set works for you, then enjoy it. If you need a different feature set, then quit grousing and pony up the money for the camera you think you need. If you can't afford that one, well, that's life. But don't vent your frustration on the 6D, which is a terrific camera for what it is.

I 110% agree with you. Cameras are simply tools. Each tool may not work well with every individual thus use the tool that works best for that person behind the viewfinder.

gimmick or not, it's bragging rights

on a related note, I'm starting to think the 6D outer points are somewhat ok IF you are super aware of the orientation. They also dont expand, so you need to be aware of the size of your target too. IMO, this is way too much to ask of the average user or even advance user, but I think I can start to work with it (may take weeks to get it down).

Orientation seems to make a huge difference in whether or not I acquire AF.

I do that is why I tested both and they both work fine past light getting so bad that end shots suck. Most I shoot is ISO6400, f1.4, 1/30 and both cameras work fine for another 1 stop.

It would be extremely surprising if the orientation didn't matter. A line sensor is one-dimensional. Think about making a crop 100x1 pixel from somewhere in a photo and also make a 1x100 crop. The camera can only produce good gocus if that thin line happens to have some sharp contrast visible. A striped shirt with the stripes following that line is no good - the shirt stripes needs to cross that little cropped 1-pixel line for the camera to have something to compute.

Not so at all. I shoot sunset portraits with strobes all the time, and the 7D struggles with focus many times when it's the best time for colors in the sky, up to 45 min or so after sunset. The extra low light sensitivity will be welcomed!

OT - Charlie, just doing quick tests with 85L on my 6d and it seems to be working quite nice. Tried center as well as outer points and they seem to grab focus fast. Hopefully I get to use for a model shoot soon.

Please clarify. Did you say that before your upper most AF point would not lock on, or give accurate focus? Is that still the case?

The upper/lower point problems are in AI servo mode. In one shot they ok as long as I keep the target and AF point orientation in my mind.

I was just telling Charlie as his 85L has issues with outer points on 6d even in one shot mode (I guess). So far my tests are indoors but light is good here in the office.

Sample variation? At f/1.2 it could be a number of things though
