I to am anxiously waiting on a 7DMKII, I hadn't realized the 40D was 6+ years old and mine has held up very well for me, but I do want the better noise performance, the higher resolution and the better AF and I don't want to step "down" to a 60D or 70D because I don't like how canon has shrunk the bodies since the 50D.

Although the 7DII will undoubtedly be awesome (at a price reflecting that), I owned a 40D from the time when both the 30D and 40D were available at the same time new -- I just sold my 40D and upgraded to a 70D and there isn't any comparison -- the features, resolution, ISO performance, focus, all of the key considerations for photography are a substantial improvement over a 40D. And video to boot. It is smaller and lighter (that is bad?) and I have no regrets at all.
