Tamron developing 150-600mm VC USD lens

I'm pleasantly surprised with my Tamron 70-300; I'd definitely consider this for a safari or similar.

Looks promising, I've been looking for a long telephoto zoom. I'm going to keep an eye on this one, hope the reviews are good. Thanks for sharing.

rumors on FM say it's 1500.... sounds too cheap to be good, but if the IQ matches the 70-300, then it'll be ok and worth it.

Thr 100-400 is mighty old. This is basically a 100-400+1.4 extender in a brand new lens. Definitely something to keep an eye on.

$1500 sounds way too low for a 600mm lens. Unless it's just poor quality optics and fully manual or something. Most lens after 300mm are hardly inexpensive. Makes me weary. Not that I'm going to get one anyways, but one can dream.

That's the kind of price where I would wait for a used sale in a few years.

I'd rather it be a 150-500/5.6. That damned f/6.3 starts messing things up (AF on certain bodies), and starts cranking up the aperture when TC's are used.

Concerned about the AF performance as well.

That said, it looks like we're in for some interesting and innovative lenses in the coming years.. in no small part, thanks to Sigma's "looking outside the box" type-mentality. Canon is going to be pressured A LOT!

Remember that this isn't a very fast lens. Had it been fast, then the price would have been much higher. It all comes down to the size of the elements - not the focal length.

I've been in the market for a 100-400 for fun, and if this tamron has semi decent optics, I'm in. I've never owned a 600mm lens and it seems like serious reach, but it's also a very heavy lens, near 2kg!

it's not really way to low at all...it's not like the other options over 300mm that are typically at least 2 stops faster on the long end...that's why they're expensive

also it's not a canon lens, it's a tamron...tamron has their 24-70mm f2.8 with VC, and it's nearly half the price of the canon 24-70mm II

Sigma's 50-500 OS is about that much, pretty good and that's a 10x zoom with nearly as much reach.

I just wish somebody made a prime longer than the 400 5.6 without being too much more expensive. Although for now i really love that lens. But if this Tamron lens was good enough IQ wise i might consider it.

Also the AF might not come close to that of the canon's

has me debating if I should get this or an ultra wide lens :P as I have need of both.
