I am anxiously waiting to see what new specs are offered on the camera. Hopefully the new sensor will be from the 180nm process and hopefully with improved ISO performance and signifivcantly less noise in the low ISOs.

This will be mearly a CROP 5D3 w/ 10FPS. The sensor will be a new 22.1MP.

...So I predict. And with that being said I would own one.

Yep. Same here.

Well when the 7D came out the 5dM2 was a great camera, with a poor AF. Many were screaming why the 7D AF wasn't in the 5dm2. SO I'm wondering if they will put something in the 7D that people would have wished for in the 5dm3? That way it keeps the line up more unique. 6d has the -3ev center AF, 70d came out with the dual/cross pixel AF, Maybe the 7D will have a new sensor that really rocks.

When the 7D came out it was really revolutionary. It sparked interest in a "sports" crop camera. The 7D has been used by pro's, as backups, many many many photo studios use them. It's features was none seen thus far and MANY of it's technologies rolled right into the 5D3 & 1DX.

It took features from the 1D series, built on it, and at the time gave a great sensor. Everyone... EVERYONE says if the 7D had a better sensor they wouldn't have a reason to get rid of it at all.

Now the speculations are the 7D2 has moved up in it's "classification" as a PRO crop camera and no longer a prosumer. I think Canon will AGAIN release a game changing camera. It's the 7D legacy :) It will be rich in features, a new never seen before sensor all new technology. This will be the camera that all future cameras will absorb it's features from including future 1D's.

Try out the latest and greatest on it's top of the line Cropper, get feedback and then perfect the next PRO cameras to include it's features.

I know this is wishful thinking but there has to be a reason things have evolved to where we are at know. The 70D has an awesome set of features and it's only 1200. I think the 7D2 will be a 2400 dollar camera and be the camera of choice for 5D3 owners. Duplicate body, features, faster FPS, better crop sensor than anything we have seen.

...oh and be video oriented lol :p

My guess

-New 81 point AF focus with dedicated DiGic 5 processor
-Dual Digic 6 sensor capable of 12FPS
-ISO 100-102400
-22-24mp
-CF and SD card slot

or am I dreaming too much and I should re-think what they say when speculations says "Pro-body" and "revolutionary"

I think you're right. One thing that a lot of those on POTN don't realize, is how many 7D's are used to shoot video. It is the film school and indie film staple. The new 7D will definitely get the dual-pixel AF as seen in the 70D. It was just announced that the EOS Cinema C100 cameras will be eligible for a dual-pixel AF upgrade and the sensors will not be replaced to accommodate the change. That might not matter to still photographers much but, it makes me think that with so much focus on video and the higher bitrates and lower compression, the buffers will be massive and writing speeds will be extremely fast. I wouldn't be surprised if the next 7D could rip off 45 or more full size RAW frames in continuous high speed shooting.

I would really like to see two stops better noise reduction across the ISO range but I suspect we'll be lucky to get one. 10fps and improved AF would just be icing on the cake for me. I am fairly certain that whatever they give us on a new 7DII will be good enough for me to justify buying it to replace my trusty workhorse original 7D.

So this will be the poor man's 1DX?

Expect similar pro metal body with built in grip.
Autofocus is guaranteed to be dual pixel 61pt
24mpx is probably not going to happen. 18-20mp
dual card slots.

This will be a a professional camera aimed at sports shooters looking for 1DX performance but with more reach.

81-point AF?

It already takes forever to select from 61-points. You want 81?

all of this sounds really good....
and even if it is a "poor man's version" of the 1dx - that makes a kick butt camera for 1/3 the price (and lighter too)!

what I am worried about is the "first half of 2014" bit. I would like to be able to hold it in my hands by June.... but from announcement to distribution in Canon lately...

although there is that announcement of some sort of DSLR body on the 11th of ??December?? from the Korean Canon web site (I can't read the Korean, so I am not sure if it says anything important)...

Better low light focus ability would be nice too. Sometimes the ability to focus in low light, just kills my shots.
