Last time I'd been to this venue was to see Pavement in 94 or 95 ( as a student )

This young band are on the brink of greatness, done some UK festivals and this was the last gig of their Scottish part of a UK tour. I shot them earlier in the year and posted that back in June/July IIRC

#1 up the nose isn't too appealing. What's the focus on #2? Did you use a lens hood on #3. I don't think these are up to your standards.

For #1 I was going for a non typical shot of Ross ( he never usually does the foot on the monitor thing but it was a homecoming gig for the band ). Trying to capture some energy and his obvious joy at playing that gig. Up the nose is a bit off I agree but it was a rare moment :)

#2 IIRC center point focus and AI servo ( shot is cropped a bit I'd need to check Lightroom ). I had the focus on the bass player's hands/bass strings but he moved so it caught the Tom Tom instead. The guy moves a lot so it was a bit of work keeping him in frame. IIRC there were 2 other photogs and 2 video guys in the pit too. Not an excuse though.

#3 Yup lens hood on all of the shots, the bright light on the right was a lot more intense so I cropped in a bit to take out the worst of it. Possibly should have also done some more PP to pull it back a it more at that area, but I actually like the glow.

I think I might have done better shots but I'm fairly happy with what I got. The band and promoter liked them and a few ( some from the set not the ones posted here ) will be used in an online review.

Again, not an excuse but it was the first time I'd used my Sigma 30mm for live stuff so for the 3 songs I was in the pit I was just finding out what it could do.

Thanks for the comments. As ever I always appreciate criticism here, good or bad, it helps me try to get better the next time.

1 and 3 are pretty good.

2 is totally OOF *(unless you were actually trying to focus on his leg?)

1 is kind of OK, though from under I like to be still able to see some yes.

2 Is too blury and B&W is to flat for me.

3 is the best IMO.
