I'm a bit in shock I've sold two frames and four reprints already at the exhibition seems a bit strange to me that people will pay good money for my photos.

Congratulations! Have you displayed and/or sold at exhibitions before?

Can anyone comment on why I'm finding incredibly cheap camera gear on the London Craiglist page? This one in particular http://london.craigslist.co.uk/pho/4142036301.html (external link) I had always heard that Canon gear in the UK is extremely expensive. I thought about taking my 500mm f4L IS with me on my trip to London next week and try to sell it to make a little profit, then buy a 600mm when I got home. But looking at the prices there they seem to be about half of what we would pay here in the US? That 600mm I linked to is about $4,000 after the conversion. You can't find one here for under $6,000. Are they all just a scam? Or is that the real price of things there?

Unless the owner is a bit naive or it is nicked....too good to be true......normally lenses are cheaper secondhand your side of the pond.

RE a walk around london if you put the details on here of when and where you are meeting you might get some more takers

morning all, I went to the Leeds Castle fireworks on Saturday so I had a go at some shots of them, first time shooting fireworks so there okish, I did have the added problem of not being in the best of places as I was 3 rows back down the side of the castle so I had to shoot over the heads of people, and to make it a bit harder I had George on my shoulders as well..
Anyhow heres a few pics, I took lots just not sure which I like so these might be crap or good?, I will next time make sure im in the right place long before the crowds gather..

In my experience, lenses have been more expensive in the US than the UK since about 2008 when the exchange rate against the USD fell from $2:£1 to about $1.60:£1. Before that the prices were far better in the US.

That said, I only found one second hand 600 f4IS online at the moment for £4k ($6400). £2500 ($4k) is more 300 2.8IS money so I'd want to check out the lens you found in person before buying.

While I'm here, great photos here lately particularly Mark and Jon. I usually lurk these days as I've been running an ex-pat photo club in Basel since February. So far have about 20 people interested and about 4-5 people along for each meet once a month. It's tough work coming up with a new theme every month but at least it gets me out taking photos pretty regularly.

Feel like going to richmond too bad I don't have telephoto anymore. Does anyone feel generous enough to lend me one for a day or so?

I generally wait to buy all of my stuff in Canada when I go back home, it's almost always cheaper. That 600mm probably 'fell off the back of a truck', if it even exists at all.

I really like this one - the colours and lights are fabulous.

But this one is my favourite - even better colours.

I thought about going to Richmond this morning but the light was boring and grey so I stayed in bed :D typically the forecast is best for Tuesday morning when I'm working
