Yeah they certainly don't hold their value as well.

The way I put it when friends asked me why I went from an almost new model to an old model was simply I was "upgrading" from a mid-level to a pro body, and that really holds true. 5D is still well respected as a pro-level body, and the mid-levels in the X0D series line drop in price pretty quickly. Not as quickly as the rebel series, I can't believe the deals you can get on those bodies shortly after they're released.

Price is not really the only relevance when it comes to this sort of thing. What people will pay for something, sometimes has very little to do with anything else.

what camera has held their value well?...yeah the 5D seems to have now stabilized at about $500...but that's certainly not what they sold for brand new, or even just a few years ago...

Before I go any further with this, are you in fact a 60D owner? And if so, have you shot extensively with a 5D classic, and then compared how you enjoy each one?

Did you think I meant full retail value or something? Everything, cars, televisions, cameras, cell phones, drop in value over time. But an iPhone is pretty commonly known to hold a value closer to it's original retail value than say, a nokia. If you need another example, a Honda is well known to hold it's resale value better than a hyundai. I won't argue that both cars, cameras, phones degrade in value regardless.

I own a 60d and a t3i. Like them both. Shot 35 mm for 28 years before this. Don't really care what forum wannabes have to say about which body is 100x better. Lol. If you're a good photographer the differences are negligible. My instinct tells me that a lot of people have great equipment with much smaller skillsets. This goes for any hobby I ever had. The need that shows up with his 10k bike and can't pedal it up a hill is the first thing that comes to mind.

First of all, you've been shooting for 28 years so I have got to wonder why your maturity level hasn't quite caught up yet. "forum wannabe" and "lol"? I don't see how "wannabe" is even relevant here. What is it that I'm wanting to be? I think if anything I have way more pull in this argument, having owned both cameras, than someone who has not. As I said earlier, relax. You are the only one to have gotten hostile here about your precious 60D because I simply exaggerated a point with the "100x" remark out of pure excitement that yet another person has switched from a 60D to a 5D and is happy about it. If you search this forum that I'm a "wannabe" on you will find many others who have made the switch and are quite pleased with it.

"100x better" is a silly thing to say. I'm not being hostile, that's what I don't like about the boards. Written word can be taken out of context very easily. You do have more pull, and your opinion is valuable to the forums. To the OP, congratulations on your trade. I hope you enjoy your new body!
