Some shots from the pond in front of my house... all taken with the 7D and the 100-400L.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

These are photos from a pelagic birding trip my son and I took in September off the Oregon coast. It was a lot harder than I expected taking shots from the deck of a pitching and rolling boat, so my keeper rate was abysmal especially for BIF, and I ended up spending more time on the binoculars.

Cassin's auklet, trying to get out of the way of our boat:

Sooty seawater, who have one of the most epic migrations of any bird species:

The best sighting on our trip, a long tailed Jaeger, in the water next to our boat:

And finally, a black footed albatross. We saw lots of these, about 30 miles offshore.

Black footed albatross in flight. The flight of these birds are to be seen to be believed. I don't think I have seen anything so effortlessly graceful and powerful.

The Sooty Shearwater photo above is also a Black-footed Albatross. Just FYI.

^ Yes, I realized that after it was pointed it out to me on FM. How embarrassing! Not sure how I got them mixed up, but in my defense, I saw a *lot* of 1st-time birds that day. ;) Should have kept better notes, for after two months, the Cassin's auklets look like marbled murrelets (another mistake above, don't know if you noticed) and the albatrosses look like shearwaters!

Julian - Were these pics taken on one of those days when you feel that come what may, you must use your camera when you haven't been shooting much of late?!! :D
It happens to me many times... my time management skills are an all time low now-a-days and I don't shoot myself for weeks on at times. :)

Ha ha!! Love your sig, BTW.
