Strong contrasty light and no tripod, so created four virtual copies in Lightroom.

Me too - I'm trying to work out where it's taken from .... is that Sommes Island?

Cheers.

roseyposey - it's taken at Pt Halswell which is the northern tip of Miramar Peninsula. Somes Island is on the horizon line at the far right.

Posted originally on HDR thread it was pointed out the white halo around tree and so far the only advice to get rid of it is to ditch Photomatix and try another app. After doing research on HDR apps Photomatix was said to be the best, one the professionals use!! Have I bought a bummer!!! or not???? I would be interested in your comments.

Dave.

This is my first Photomatix HDR photo, this software is aa-amazing. It's easy to get carried away so in this photo I've tried for a natural look but doing the surreal stuff is great fun.
Please be free to give any tips or advice.

Dave.

Photomatix is perfectly capable of producing a halo-free image. You need to spend some time learning the controls and what they do, that's all. Try highlight smoothing first and see if you get some results that way. Several of the controls affect edge contrast, so take some time to experiment by cranking each control up and down to its limits and see what happens.
