I love this shot! Is it HDR? What PP gives it that gritty look?

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

+1

I think a very high level of Clarity or micro contrast can do that. The PP is fantastic.

thanks buds, yes it's 3 exposures HDR - that and texture massaging with Color Efex Pro and Nik Sharpener gives it that look.

Kinda just got bored one night. It was freezing here, so I went out at about 2 or 3 in the morning and took a few shots.

Last night. Also freezing, but not in the literal sense. Just very, very cold.

You all are posting such great shots I'm almost afraid to post here!

This one was shot from a tripod submerged in Caddo lake.

These are photos from a pelagic birding trip my son and I took in September off the Oregon coast. It was a lot harder than I expected taking shots from the deck of a pitching and rolling boat, so my keeper rate was abysmal especially for BIF, and I ended up spending more time on the binoculars.

Marbled murrelet, trying to get out of the way of our boat:

Sooty seawater, who have one of the most epic migrations of any bird species:

The best sighting on our trip, a long tailed Jaeger, in the water next to our boat:

And finally, a black footed albatross. We saw lots of these, about 30 miles offshore.

Black footed albatross in flight. The flight of these birds are to be seen to be believed. I don't think I have seen anything so effortlessly graceful and powerful.
